Stone Man Park (SMP) is an outdoor music, art and educational destination place. Its 57 acres of minimally disturbed woodland boast several covered stages, multi-use pavilions, clearings, trails and the Pacolet River. Nestled in the middle of nature with structures fashioned from repurposed materials—it’s poised to become the community’s favorite local getaway.
Our Mission: To preserve, promote and celebrate music, art and nature at Stone Man Park.
Our Vision: A continuously evolving cultural community grounded in fairness and open to all.
For 30 years, this land was known to friends and musicians as the Music Camp, a hidden gem born from a party boat idea and a lot of repurposed materials.
After three decades of hosting concerts and gatherings, founders John and Lisa Featherston decided it was time to pass the torch. They transitioned the land into a non-profit park for the entire community to enjoy. The goal is to take that original concept of a multi-stage greenspace and expand it for all.
We’re just a small group of locals working to keep the dream alive. From the founders to the board, we’re dedicated to preserving this special patch of woods for everyone to enjoy.

Born in Spartanburg, John Featherston was a Navy brat and traveled the world as a child. The many unique cultures stoked his curiosity. As one of the original long hairs in his hometown in the 1960s, he found himself not only loving that new rock and roll sound but creating ways to make it available to the locals by organizing some of the first music festivals here. When he stumbled upon a large patch of land by the Pacolet River, he saw a diamond in the rough. It wouldn’t be long before he was putting on concerts and events while filling the space with his and others’ artistic creations. Thirty years later, in his mid-70s, he followed in his parents’ generous footsteps by giving back to the community in a big way: by sharing this sacred ground with the public. Ever the visionary, he hopes Stone Man Park will become a haven for music, art and nature lovers in his hometown.

Although Lisa Featherston was born in Spartanburg, she spent a lot of time on the Florida coast before returning to her roots. A music, art and travel enthusiast in her own right, it was no stretch to see how she and John would become life partners. But before their shared chapter began, she had a career in the orthodontic world while rescuing animals in her free time. That love continues to this day as she plans to host community events for animal lovers at the park with the hope that others will find their future, four-legged family members.
Executive Director
Spartanburg native Brandy Lindsey has been a songwriter and artist for all of her adult life. From owning a marketing and design company, playing music and putting on benefit concerts for the better part of 30 years, it was a no-brainer for her to accept the executive director position at Stone Man Park. It was a gift to be able to fit her loves under one roof and serve the community in the process. When not whipping up a tune or creative project, she can be found hugging on her family members who just happen to share her same passion for art, music, travel and good food!
